Popularly known as ‘The Wall’ of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid is celebrating his 44th birthday today.
Born in a Marathi family and brought up in Bangalore, he started playing cricket at the age of 12 and later represented Karnataka at the under-15, under-17 and under-19 levels.
Career highlights of Rahul Dravid :
* Made his First Class debut for Karnataka against Maharashtra in February 1991
* ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Singapore, April 3, 1996. Scored just three runs in India’s win.
* Test debut against England at Lord’s.June 1996. Scored 95 runs
* Struck his first Test century (148) against South Africa at Johannesburg in January 1997.
* Dravid is the fourth-highest run scorer in Test cricket, after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis
* Out of 36 Test centuries, his 21 centuries came in overseas Tests.
